Find a Lansing Area Builder

There are many sources available for finding a Lansing area builder. You can look in the yellow pages, search the net, get a name off a sign in front of a new construction project, or by word of mouth. Once you have found 2 or 3 builders, you will need to conduct a contractor interview. Asking the right questions can make all the difference in your project. You want to make sure that the Lansing area builder you choose, has built homes similar to yours. That does not mean they have to look like yours. What it does mean is they should be comparable in complexity. For example, if a builder specializes in small ranch homes, he may not be the best choice for you contemporary 2.5 story home.

In addition, you want to make sure that you feel comfortable with the builder and that you communicate well with each other. I guarantee you, without exception, you will see something going on at your job site that will concern you. You may think the floor plan does not look right. You may discover the bathroom is too small and you want to move the wall out 3 feet. You may not like the way the site is being run, such as too much trash around. What ever it is, you will have to be able to communicate it to your builder. If he has the kind of personality that turns every request you make into a confrontation, then you may not want to use that builder. You will have to communicate with your builder on a regular basis for a least a few months if not much longer. If you don’t click with the builder, you are in for a long miserable project.

Make sure you take a look at the homes that he has built. If he is currently building a house, ask him if you can take a look at the job site. Many times the builder can take you through homes he has previously built for customers. If that option is available to you, then take a tour. Pay attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Remember to ask the builder and his cutomers questions that are important to you. Be sure to check out the contractor interview link, it has important information for screening builders, and/or contractors.

If you have a specific question that was not answered here, please Contact Me and I will do my best to get you the answer.

Tanner-Phillips offers custom built homes, contracting services and consulting. I would be happy to take a look at your project and give you a bid for the construction of your new home, or act as a sub contractor and build a portion of your home.
